I won’t give up my life for 500 hours every year.
From the reputable statistics, majority of people living in large cities in North American has wasted 1.5 hours every day on the commuting. I have never been convinced for surrender so much time in my life for a job.
Well, we still need a roof above our head and put the food on the table don’t we?
That is not a question. However there are ways to control where you would like to work and who you would like to work for. I am not joking, it is doable as I have done that and people I have coached in their job searching have done the same.
Your eyes are so narrowed on the visible job market including the job listing web site, and other job posting on the local newspaper or magazine then you really don’t have much choice to apply what is available.
Even worse, what has been working one year ago can’t get you a job any more.
While the unemployment rate is hitting the record high peak and experienced people are once again available on the job market, the employers have gone to heaven and it’s easy to find a qualified employee right now and it is cheap in terms of salary and benefit.
It has giving you the impression there isn’t any job available in your area. That is not true.
It is worth repeating here. 80% of all jobs are never advertised, so what you can see in the visible job market only represents 20% of job market so there are still a lot of opportunities have passed by unnoticed.
Shall we take advantage of those and get ourselves one of those jobs in the area? Absolutely.
Build a habit to read local newspaper once week, I will just go to local library and glance through the business section. Make note on which business in my area is doing well, such as won a major contract, posted financial result beating the expectation and other positive news for a fast growing company.
Now you have the opportunity to present yourself in front of potential employer in your area.
I would also research the companies in the same industry, create a list for companies meeting my criteria by searching the business directories.
You could find a list of company in your area and worth targeting if you are creatively dig deeper. Internet has a lot of free information you just have to find other way to find them out.
I have used a small list of companies in my field very close to my home. Just sent snail mails to prospect employers on the list and I found two job interviews and got an offer in 9 days.
In 10 years, I have helped my friends in their job search to target companies close to where they live. At the end, they are all happy with the fact there isn’t much travel involved.
That is possible if you have a right job searching system and you follow it through.
I won’t mislead you find a job in the hidden job market using my system requires a lot of hard working.
If you commit to find a job close to your home so you can spend more time with the family and enjoy the life, it is worth the effort of hard working to learn a new way of thinking.
What are required?
It is not difficult if you open to learn what it takes. There are many ways to find a job.
